Confessions of a list maker.

Okay, so I have been searching for some grand idea to help me get to the chores that need done, but never quite make it to the top of my list.

So I decided to make (another) list. I called it the ONE A DAY list. This list is things that need done, but after the daily pick ups and surface cleaning, I never get to. Every day I take a few minutes and do at least one thing on my list. So far this week, I think its helping. Here is my list. Maybe you are struggling with the same problems, so I thought if it helps, I'd share. I'd love to hear from you if you have a great way to tackle the chores in your home.

Vacuum Stairs
Dust handrail
Clean front closet
Wipe down one wall
Take down and clean blinds in one room
Wash window in one room
Sweep front steps
Wipe out bathroom drawers
Vacuum out couches downstairs
Clean glass on picture frames
Sort Socks
Wipe down Kitchen chairs
Deliver borrowed stuff to owners
Sort out shelves in my closet

Grilled Chicken on stick.

Breaded chicken is a good bet for finicky eaters, and this variation, grilled and served on a skewer, makes it even more appealing to kids. Add your child's favorite dipping sauce, and there might not be any left for the adults!

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, pounded 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick
Salt and pepper
24 (10-inch) bamboo skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
3 tablespoons peanut or vegetable oil
2 tablespoons barbecue sauce
1 1/4 cups plain dried bread crumbs
Step 1 Cut each chicken breast lengthwise into 1/2-inch-wide strips and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Fold the chicken strips slightly and weave them onto the skewers.
Step 2 Prepare a charcoal fire or set a gas grill to medium-high, close the lid, and heat until hot -- about 10 to 15 minutes.
Step 3 In a small bowl, stir together the oil and the barbecue sauce. Spread the bread crumbs on a sheet of waxed paper. Lightly brush the sauce mixture over the chicken strips and then roll them in the bread crumbs.
Step 4 Grill the chicken fingers uncovered until they're no longer pink inside, about 2 to 4 minutes per side on a gas grill.
Step 5 Serve with the dipping sauce of your choice. Serves 6 to 8.

What's for Dinner

I found this receipe on a blog from Ririe Stake Enrichment, (I know that is not right so someone come back and correct me.) Anyway I took the receipe and tweeked it to what I had in the kitchen. Here goes.

Ham & Cheese bake.
2c cooked ham-cubed
1/2 c Swiss cheese, I only had slices so I cubed them small
1/2 c Monterey Jack cheese- cut small to match the swiss
1 green onion- sliced small
1/4 yellow pepper- cubed small
1 carrot- cubed small like other veggies. No favorits here.
1 tsp. dried mustard
1Tb fresh lemon juice
1/3 c water
1 pinch of oregano, nutmeg, and a sprinkle of Paparika for color.
1 can Chicken cream soup- wish I would have had Cream Celery soup - chicken will work
1 frozen pie shell
2 cups dried old bread, cut into cubes.

This reciepe was one they suggested to be made ahead and then frozen till assembly time. This is what I did.

I chopped my veggies and cooked in water till broken down but not mussy. Added the spices and water and cooked for a about 2 min till it got thick. added soup, lemon juice. Cooked till soup broke down. Poured all over top of the ham and cheese. Poured into pie shell. Let rest.

Take the bread cubes and toast in frying pan with a bit of butter and a little olive oil. Be patient with these. Let them toast. Pour on top of pie and sprinkle with a bit more Paparika and bake till bubbly hot and serve with salad.

Let me know if you try this and how you would change it.

Thanks mom for a great motivator

Thanks mom for this great book. It is a great motivator. This author, Anitra Kerr, breaks the everyday mess of cleaning and organizing down into days, with cute little titles for each. Like "Making the most of Mondays and Wise Tip Wednesday" It's a good push I needed to get moving this summer.
You can find it at Deseret Book or let me know and I'll let you borrow it.

Rainy Day Reading

I'm going to buy this bok today. A friend read a small clip to me and I can't wait to read the whole thing. This guy is an awsome speaker and author.

Happiness: Some seek it, Some make it

We had a great night at Enrichment. We played the cutest game and had a speaker on happiness. It is just what I needed to hear. One of the things the speaker said is this: "Happiness, some seek it, some make it."

I hope I can apply this to my life. I need to stop seeking it and start making it. My sister Casie made this cute handout above. I'm thinking about having it made into a picture for my little girls room. It would fit perfect with her decor and I want her to grow up learning this from her earliest of ages.

In case you need a cute little game for anyone or anything here is what we did.

We put these candy bars in a bag and made everyone pick one out, without looking.
Then they had to tell the group the following, which coordinated with the candy bar.

Snickers - an embarrassing moment.
Almond Joy - something that really brings you joy.
Milky Way- tell what you wish for. your hopes and dreams.
Kit Kat (give me a break) - tell what you love to do in your spare time.

It was fun to hear every ones little stories. And we just had lite refreshments and then we did Highlights.

Highlights are where everyone in the group (or at our house we do this at the dinner table) tells something that happened to them that day that was the "Highlight" of their day. It can be whatever made them feel special, anything they were proud of doing, anything that made them stop and say - wow, that really made my day.

try these at your house, our kids love to do Highlights and we try to do them everynight at dinner time.
